Missing details in data dump

Postby Open Human » Wed Feb 27, 2008 4:33 pm

Hello there. :)

Firstly, thanks very much for such a potentially useful script. I'm currently sorting out backups for my sites and this could be great.

I say "could be great" becuase I think I've come across what could stop me using it, at least for now.

Here's the output from phpMySQLAutoBackup:

Code: Select all

drop table if exists ProductCategories;

create table ProductCategories (
  ID smallint(4) not null auto_increment,
  ParentID smallint(4) default '0' not null ,
  Subsection tinyint(1) default '0' not null ,
  Name tinytext not null ,
  DisplayName tinytext not null ,
  Description varchar(1500) not null ,
  Ref varchar(30) not null ,
  Active tinyint(1) default '1' not null ,

Here's the output from phpMyAdmin:

Code: Select all

DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `ProductCategories`;
CREATE TABLE `ProductCategories` (
  `ID` smallint(4) NOT NULL auto_increment,
  `ParentID` smallint(4) NOT NULL default '0',
  `Subsection` tinyint(1) NOT NULL default '0',
  `Name` tinytext NOT NULL,
  `DisplayName` tinytext NOT NULL,
  `Description` varchar(1500) NOT NULL,
  `Ref` varchar(30) NOT NULL,
  `Active` tinyint(1) NOT NULL default '1',
) ENGINE=InnoDB AUTO_INCREMENT=144 DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 COMMENT='Main product categories';

The differences are:

Back ticks
Database engine
Auto increment
Default charset

Also of note is the following which is in the phpMyAdmin dump, but not the phpMySQLAutoBackup one:

Code: Select all

LOCK TABLES `ProductCategories` WRITE;
/*!40000 ALTER TABLE `ProductCategories` DISABLE KEYS */;

I thought I'd mention it here in case you have plans to update the script.

I suppose I could edit schema_for_export.php and get these things included? However, I'm not a database expert and guess you'd do it much more efficiently with less chance of mistakes.

Is it something you'd want to look at, or should I have a go when I get time? Thanks again.

MODS thats what I do that is! But definately NO mod music! It has to be ROCK!

Thanks for the info.

I have no plans to do any updates for some time. Sorry.

Most of what you have pointed out is not of great importance and can be changed with relative ease within the script if necessary.

The data within the current backups can be restored to any MySQL database and manipulated as per requirement for:
Database engine
Default charset

Therefore, it should not stop you or anyone else from using it.

Thanks for the quick reply David, and for letting me know it won't be done. I hope to try and add what's necessary myself, though I feel like I'm drowning in work and things at the moment.

The items I listed are very important for me as having to manually adjust tables to use the right engine and then reintroduce the foreign keys is just not an option. It would be better for me to set up a normal cron mysql dump and grab the archives by ftp.

Will post back when I start. 8)
